Baeza (McKinzie–Puca, by Big Brown), winner of the 2025 GI Pennsylvania Derby, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Spendthrift Farm in 2027.Campaigned by Lee and Susan Searing's C R K Stable and his breeder Robert Clay's Grandview Equine, Baeza hit the board in 10 of 13 starts and retires with earnings of $2,344,700.In addition to his 2 1/4-length win over Magnitude in the Pennsylvania Derby, which earned him a 105 Beyer Speed Figure, Baeza hit the board in five other Grade I events, with runner-up efforts as a sophomore in the GI Santa Anita Derby and third-place efforts in the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Belmont Stakes.This term, he was second in the GI Stephen Foster Stakes in June, earning a 112 Beyer, and third in the Sept. 18 GI Jockey Club Gold Cup.“Baeza gave us so many great moments, but his run in the Kentucky Derby is something we'll never forget,” said Lee Searing. “To watch him come charging down the stretch on the biggest stage in our sport was an incredible thrill. He proved that day that he belonged with the very best of his generation, and he continued to show us that throughout his career. He is a half-brother to GI Kentucky Derby winner Mage (Good Magic) and GI Belmont Stakes winner Dornoch (Good Magic).“Baeza is a rare combination of talent, pedigree, and looks.
