India has been attracting reasonably good global investments in AI, especially in the last one year. But there is an enormous untapped potential. In order to attract massive global investments in AI infrastructure, the availability of dedicated hyper-scale clean power with near zero downtime and enough water for cooling systems is an imperative.Further, regulatory certainty around data transfers, copyright and AI governance should be assured for the big tech companies to commit investments, apart from facilitating green channels for import of high performance compute infrastructure.Kosaraju ChandramouliHyderabadHydrocarbon explorationThis refers to ‘Exploring options’ (August 14). Our indifferent hydrocarbon record is shaped by limited exploration, inadequate technology and tough economics of deep-water drilling. Today 3D seismic imaging, AI analyses, advanced drilling and better reservoir modelling can probe geological structures far accurately than earlier. While technology can improve the probability of discovery and reduce exploration risk, commercial viability ultimately depends on reservoir size, quality, depth and development costs.R NarayananNavi MumbaiRural credit accessWith reference to ‘Rural credit needs to be reimagined’ (August 14). Rural households today depend on diverse livelihoods. Yet credit systems often remain designed around conventional agricultural cycles. Banks should develop flexible products based on household cash flows rather than treating every borrower as a cultivator. Small loans, working-capital facilities and emergency credit should be available with simple documentation and reasonable repayment schedules. Better use of digital records can improve credit assessment while reducing dependence on informal lenders.Pon.
