Students should aspire to serve the nation by joining armed forces: Dharwad DC - The HinduPublished - August 15, 2026 12:36 am IST - HUBBALLIDharwad Deputy Commissioner Snehal R. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTDeputy Commissioner of Dharwad, Snehal R., has said that students should aspire to serve the nation by joining the armed forces, police and other services.Inaugurating an exhibition on India’s defence system organised jointly by the Karnataka Education Board and educational institutions in Dharwad on Friday, Ms. Snehal said that such exhibitions would help students gain a better understanding of the country’s defence preparedness and the functioning of the armed forces.She urged students to develop an interest in national security and explore opportunities to serve the country. She also called upon students to learn more about the Centre’s Agniveer scheme and consider joining the armed forces. The younger generation had an important role to play in the development, security, and defence of the country, she said.“Students should never dream small. Your dreams should always be as big as possible, and you should work continuously to turn them into reality,” she said.Brigadier S.G. Bhagwat said India had made significant progress in the field of defence production. The country had moved from a stage when it depended on other nations for defence equipment to one where it was exporting missiles, he said.He stressed the need to inculcate discipline among the youth and urged students to contribute to the country’s development and progress. Every citizen had a role to play in strengthening the nation, he said.Air Commodore C.S. Hawaldar, Commodore Aravind Shiggaon, and Colonel Anup Ralegaonkar also spoke. Presiding over the event, the president of the K.E. Board, Mahadev Joshi, said that students should cultivate a spirit of commitment to the nation and be prepared to make sacrifices in its service.The exhibition featured models prepared by around 350 students of the Army, Navy, Air Force, various regiments and the Border Security Force.
