Malta’s law enforcement authorities are ramping up their presence across some of the island’s busiest areas as the country enters the peak of the summer tourism season.The Police Force, Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and LESA are joining forces to increase patrols and visibility in key localities including Paceville, St Julian’s, Swieqi, Sliema and Gżira.The coordinated effort is aimed at maintaining public order, improving safety for residents and visitors, and tackling antisocial behaviour during one of the busiest periods of the year.Authorities say the increased presence will allow for faster intervention when incidents occur while also acting as a deterrent against violence, disorder and other offences.Home Affairs and Security Minister Glenn Bedingfield said the government will continue deploying additional resources wherever necessary.“Our message is clear: we will not allow anyone to compromise the safety and peace of our communities,” he said.The announcement comes as enforcement measures in tourist areas continue to be strengthened.Earlier this summer, authorities introduced tougher penalties, including doubling the minimum on-the-spot fine, while non-residents who receive fines of €200 or more could face deportation proceedings.Police have already been carrying out intensified patrols in Swieqi and Pembroke, particularly during the night and in areas identified as hotspots.With thousands of tourists currently on the islands for the Santa Marija weekend and the peak summer period, authorities say efforts to maintain safety and public order will continue across Malta’s busiest entertainment and tourism zones.Do you think there should be an even stronger police presence in Malta’s nightlife areas?•
