A team of dedicated divers has removed an incredible 320kg of waste from some of Malta’s most popular swimming spots during a major underwater clean-up operation.The Coast is Clear Dive Team recently returned from a three-dive expedition targeting Blue Lagoon, San Niklaw Bay and Paradise Bay, three of the islands’ most beautiful and frequently visited coastal locations.Among the more unusual items recovered were 11 diving and snorkelling masks, which the team joked were likely lost by tourists enjoying Malta’s crystal-clear waters.The clean-up removed a mixture of waste from the seabed, helping to protect local marine ecosystems and keep the bays cleaner for both wildlife and visitors.Photos from the initiative show divers hauling bags of rubbish from the water after spending hours clearing debris from the popular sites.The project was carried out by Coast is Clear, with support from Watercolours Dive Centre and The Alfred Mizzi Foundation.Beyond improving the appearance of the bays, initiatives like these help reduce the impact of marine litter on fish, seabirds and other sea life that call Maltese waters home.Would you join an underwater clean-up like this?Photo credits to @coastisclearfoundation•
