Edited Press ReleaseWarner C. Lusardi, the San Diego construction magnate, major philanthropist and longtime civic benefactor, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. He was 94.Mr. Lusardi was a devoted horse racing enthusiast and a valued member of the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club Board of Directors, serving with distinction since 1988. Throughout his nearly four decades of service, he provided steadfast leadership, thoughtful counsel and an unwavering commitment to the success of Del Mar and the Thoroughbred racing industry.He and his father, Pete, founded Lusardi Construction in 1958, starting the company out of the garage in their San Diego home. Over the decades, Lusardi Construction grew into one of the region's largest and most successful builders, completing thousands of projects totaling millions of square feet across Southern California.Mr. Lusardi was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Civil Engineer Corps. He was also a licensed General Engineering and General Building contractor and a Registered Civil Engineer.He and his wife, Debbie, were married for 54 years prior to her passing in 2024.The Lusardi's took great pride in their philanthropic work throughout the community. Their contributions included sponsorship of the Curebound Cancer Challenge, a fundraiser to fight cancer that has generated over $25 million since its start in 2013.
