The Local Councils’ Association (LCA) Malta is leading the Erasmus+ project Green Narratives: Rethinking Sustainability Through Human Stories, a European initiative bringing together the Local Councils’ Association (Malta), Institute Advocacy Hub (Slovenia) and JEDI Movement (Serbia) to explore how storytelling can strengthen sustainability awareness, adult education and community action.Running from June 2026 to August 2027, Green Narratives aims to increase socio-ecological awareness among adults, develop a Green Toolbox of Change, inspire community-led micro-actions and share the experiences and results generated through the project. From Human Stories to Community ActionAt the heart of Green Narratives is the belief that sustainability becomes more meaningful when it is connected to real people, real experiences and real communities.Rather than communicating environmental issues solely through policies, targets and technical information, the project will collect and share Human Stories demonstrating how individuals and communities have responded to environmental and sustainability challenges. These stories will be explored through Sustainability Story Evenings, led by Institute Advocacy Hub in Slovenia, where participants will share experiences, discuss environmental challenges and consider how positive initiatives can inspire action in other communities.Another major outcome will be the Green Toolbox of Change, led by JEDI Movement in Serbia. The Toolbox will provide an interactive resource, in physical and digital formats, designed to encourage discussion, learning and action around sustainability. The Toolbox will subsequently be put into practice through interactive activities, mentoring and community micro-actions, allowing participants to move from awareness and discussion towards tangible action within their own communities. The experiences generated will also be documented as success stories.Malta Leading the European PartnershipThe Local Councils’ Association is leading the overall project management and coordination, including financial and narrative reporting, monitoring and communication. The LCA is also leading the project’s Dissemination and Follow-Up, including its communication strategy, Green Narrative Evenings and the sustainability and continued use of the project’s results. The partnership brings together complementary expertise: Malta leads coordination, dissemination and local engagement; Slovenia leads methodology, quality assurance and Story Evenings; while Serbia leads Toolbox development, production and content creation.Call for Green Narratives – Tell Us Your StoryAs part of Green Narratives, the LCA is inviting Local and Regional Councils, NGOs, voluntary organisations, community groups, schools and residents across Malta and Gozo to come forward with sustainability initiatives and experiences that deserve to be shared. They want to hear about initiatives that have made or are making, a positive difference within a community. These could involve urban greening and open spaces, waste reduction and reuse, sustainable mobility, biodiversity, environmental education, community gardens, responsible consumption or any other locally driven environmental initiative. The initiative does not need to be large. A small action can make a meaningful difference and, when its story is shared, can inspire another community to act.If you have implemented a green initiative, participated in one or have a sustainability story from your community that deserves greater visibility, they want to hear from you.Send your Green Narrative or expression of interest to lca@lca.org.mt.Through Green Narratives, the three partner organisations aim to turn stories into learning, learning into action and local action into inspiration for communities across Europe.Tag someone you know is interested•
