The Lands Authority and Bormla Local Council have signed an agreement through which a public property in Triq it-Tlett Ibliet, Bormla, will be handed over to the Local Council for a period of five years. The property, covering around 1,571 square metres, will be used to develop a Cat Café, which will serve both as a community space and as a suitable environment for cats living in the area.Through the agreement, Bormla Local Council will be able to make better use of public space and transform it into a place that contributes to improving the surrounding environment, while also providing a service that directly benefits both the community and animals.Minister for Housing and Lands Owen Bonnici said the agreement is another example of how the Government is continuing to work with local councils to ensure public property is used in the best possible way for the benefit of communities. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta) “When public property is given a new lease of life and used in a way that addresses the needs of the community, we are ensuring that the country’s resources reach where they can make the greatest difference. Local councils are best placed to identify the needs of their residents, which is why it is important that we continue giving them the support and space they need to carry out their work,” Minister Bonnici said.Minister for Local Government and Public Works Alison Zerafa Civelli stressed the importance of continued cooperation between the Government and local councils to give public spaces a new purpose and ensure they directly benefit the community.“Working together between the Government and local councils is key to continuing to create stronger communities, with more spaces that benefit residents,” she said, adding that through this collaboration, projects addressing the specific needs of each locality are continuing to be implemented.Bormla Mayor Marco Agius said the agreement will give the space a new purpose and provide an opportunity to create an environment that can be enjoyed by both residents and those who care for the cats living on the streets.“This is another step in our work to continue improving community spaces and breathing new life into properties that can benefit residents. The Cat Café will be a project that brings together a love for animals with the need for more community-focused and accessible spaces,” Mayor Agius said. Also present for the signing were Permanent Secretary Ramon Deguara, Lands Authority CEO Robert Vella, and Bormla Local Council Executive Secretary Crystal Degabriele.Tag someone who needs to know•
