Chick-fil-A employee says one falling pan caused a concussion and vision problems. Then manager downplayed it, and now she’s jobless: ‘ruined my life’

A former Chick-fil-A worker says a workplace accident left her with a concussion, vision problems, and thousands of dollars in medical debt. She shared her story in a TikTok video that has gained attention online. The woman, who posts under the name Mac Daddy Mei, worked at a Chick-fil-A location in Cascade, near Atlanta, Georgia. She said the incident happened on May 7, 2026, during her shift. The caption of her video read: “Chick fil a ruined my life with there negligence.” She said a heavy pan fell and hit her on the head while she was placing it on a shelf above the fryers. She said she later blacked out and was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion and vision problems in her left eye. Worker says manager delayed her request to leave early Mac Daddy Mei explained that her job involved “expo” duties, which meant preparing orders for customers, and a task called “walking the pan back.” This meant returning empty protein pans to an elevated space above the fryers. She said a coworker named Amelia had told her not to use a ladder for this task and to instead reach up on her toes. @macdaddymei Chick fil a ruined my life with there negligence ♬ original sound – Mac Daddy Mei She said that while lifting a hot pan above her head to place it on the shelf, it slipped and fell back down, hitting her on the head. She said coworkers Jose and a manager named Nate both saw the incident happen. After the pan hit her head, she said she began feeling lightheaded and was sent on a 30-minute break. She said she tried eating, drinking Powerade, and eating ice to cool down, but continued to feel unwell. She said she called her fiancé, telling him she was “seeing stars.” She said she then asked Nate if she could go home early, but he told her she needed to wait for another coworker, Jacoby, to arrive for his shift. She said Jacoby was not scheduled to arrive until 3:00 p.m., more than half an hour after her own shift was set to end at 2:20 p.m. She said she continued working because she could not afford to leave without pay, describing herself as living paycheck to paycheck. She said her coworkers noticed she was moving slowly and struggling to speak. She said her knees eventually gave out, she hit her head again on a metal counter, and she blacked out. She said that before losing consciousness, she recorded a video for her fiancé and twin sister explaining what was happening, which she said she plans to post separately. Chick-fil-A has faced other public disputes, such as when a Florida man and his girlfriend were ejected over a false accusation.  When she woke up, she said she was in the manager’s office with a cold compress on her forehead. She said the Chick-fil-A owner, identified as Jonathan Ferguson, downplayed the incident by saying, “It’s just a chicken pan. It’s just a chicken pan. How could this even happen? This is just a chicken pan. It’s just chicken pan. This is too much. It’s just chicken pan.” She said paramedics on the scene told her that because the injury happened while she was clocked in, workers’ compensation should cover her treatment. She said she was taken to Emory Hospital, where she spent nine hours undergoing bloodwork, a pregnancy test, and CT scans of her head and neck. She said she was diagnosed with a concussion and later developed astigmatism in her left eye, which she said she did not have before the accident. A screenshot of her medical records lists the diagnoses as “Concussion without loss of consciousness, initial encounter” and “Blurring of visual image of left eye.” She also shared a screenshot of a medical bill on TikTok showing an amount due of $3,169.95, with an option to set up a payment plan of $265 per month.  Mac Daddy Mei said she was later told she would not receive workers’ compensation and that the company would not cover her remaining medical debt. She said the injury left her unable to continue working in food service due to ongoing sensitivity to heat and bright light, along with nausea and lightheadedness. She said she was forced to quit her job, and the loss of income eventually led to a period of homelessness. She said the experience affected her mental health, including frequent migraines, and described the financial and emotional impact as severe. “This literally flipped my life upside down,” she said in the video. The company’s viral moments have also included a customer baffled by a mysterious giveaway gadget.  Several viewers responded to her story with advice and support. One commenter wrote, “Get in touch with Chick fil a, they should have filed a report and you should have gotten worker’s comp. If Chick fil a doesn’t resolve it take legal action there are attonerys that will work on contingency.” Another commenter, who said they work in the field, wrote, “You need to follow up with the State Board of Workers Compensation on how to file (I’m in the field). They should have opened a claim at the time of the initial injury.” A third commenter wrote, “I’m sorry they failed you. They should have immediately pulled you and sent you to urgent care. This is definitely workers compensation and you would be seen and treated on the company’s account.”
