The new head coach will take charge of the U-20 national team on Tuesday, August 25, against Paraguay, while his senior-team debut will come on September 24 against Japan. The first preliminary squad list will be submitted on September 6 and could include Luis Suárez. Diego Forlán Corazo will make his first appearance as Uruguay national team coach earlier than initially expected. The former footballer will make his debut on Tuesday, August 25, in charge of the U-20 side, in the first of two friendly matches Uruguay will play against Paraguay in Montevideo. The second game will be played on Thursday, August 27, completing the series that will mark the new manager's first matches in charge of a national team. Forlán completed his second week of on-field work with the youth players on Wednesday, August 12, at the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) training complex. He held morning training sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Forlán's senior-team debut is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, against Japan in Miyagi, as part of the September–October FIFA international window. Five days later, Uruguay will face South Korea. Meanwhile, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) is working on arranging two additional international fixtures for the windows between Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2, and between Monday, October 5 and Tuesday, October 6. The first preliminary squad list of this new era will be submitted on Sunday, September 6, although the names will remain confidential. The AUF will therefore continue the system used during Marcelo Bielsa's tenure: keeping the players initially considered private and only announcing the final squad publicly. Among the potential call-ups is Luis Suárez. Forlán left the door open last Monday to the possibility of the striker returning to the Uruguay national team. Working with the U-20s at the same time Officially presented at the Estadio Centenario at the start of the week, Forlán took charge of both the senior national team and the U-20 side. With the U-20s, he will have the South American U-20 Championship in January and February ahead of him. CONMEBOL has yet to decide where the tournament will be held. If Uruguay qualify, the U-20 World Cup will follow in May and June. With the senior team, he will be in charge for the four FIFA international windows scheduled through March of next year. This week, he worked with a squad of 31 players who had been previously called up. The Montevideo City Torque players did not take part because they played Tigre on Wednesday night in the Copa Sudamericana round of 16. Coordination with the clubs The youth national-team program has also led to meetings between Diego Forlán, presidents of first- and second-division clubs, and sporting coordinators. The meetings focused on the planned preparation for the U-20 team. Ignacio González, coach of the U-17 team, also presented the planned work program ahead of the U-17 World Cup in November. AUF president Ignacio Alonso, Executive Committee member Carlos Manta, and Youth Football president Marcelo García also took part. Forlán will have the selected players available for 45 days to prepare for the South American U-20 Championship. Starting in December, the selected players will remain at the disposal of the coaching staff at the Uruguayan Football Association's training complex. submitted by /u/IndividualPleasant23 [link] [comments]
