Ugandan rapper Edwin Ruyonga has opened up about a time when he came close to signing a deal connected to Bad Boy Records, the influential American music label founded by Sean “Diddy” Combs.Speaking about his career journey, Ruyonga said representatives affiliated with the label reached out to him through a contact identified as Cedric, expressing interest in offering him an opportunity that could have led to collaboration with Bad Boy on a major project.According to the rapper, the discussions progressed to the point where he was presented with a contract to review. However, the opportunity eventually fell through after one of the representatives learned that much of his music openly expressed his Christian faith.“Even when I came back, they still reached out to me through Cedric. They gave me a deal, I looked at the deal, and I realized why some of the people who do these deals never go anywhere.”He said the representative later asked him how important his references to Jesus were in his music.“He had been hearing a lot of Jesus stuff and wanted to know how important that was to me. I told him, ‘Jesus is the way, the truth and the life to me,’ and that conversation died.”The rapper explained that his faith was not something he was prepared to compromise for a recording contract, even if it meant missing out on a potentially career-changing opportunity.Grace Nakimera claims record labels perform rituals to control artistsRuyonga also shared his personal views on the pressures artists can face when trying to break into the highest levels of the entertainment industry. He said he believes many performers encounter demands behind the scenes that are not always visible to the public, although he did not provide evidence for those claims. He maintained that staying true to his Christian beliefs was more important than pursuing fame at any cost, saying he has never regretted walking away from opportunities that conflicted with his values. @baboonforestent @ruyongamusic says his faith cost him a deal with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records.
