Week 34 of 52 | BTC The Rally Is Real But $80K Is the TestBitcoin / U.S. dollarBITSTAMP:BTCUSDRobert_V12BTCUSD finally woke up. After spending most of the summer moving sideways between roughly $60K and $65K, BTC broke out with one of its strongest weekly moves in months. It reclaimed $70K, pushed through $75K and is now approaching the first level that can truly test this rally: $80K. The move didn’t come out of nowhere. Renewed institutional demand, a weaker dollar and growing optimism around crypto regulation helped bring buyers back. Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted approximately $606 million on August 20 alone. However, a large short squeeze also added fuel to the rally. That distinction matters. Short squeezes can create impressive candles, but the market still needs real demand once the forced buying slows down. From a technical perspective, reclaiming $65K was the first positive signal. Moving above $72K–$74K confirmed that momentum had shifted back toward buyers. But BTC is now entering the same $79K–$82K area where the previous recovery lost strength. This is where the chart becomes interesting. A daily close above $80K would be encouraging, but I would prefer to see BTC hold the level or successfully retest it before calling this a confirmed breakout. If buyers can do that, the next major target becomes the $85K–$90K resistance zone. That area previously acted as support before the February breakdown, so sellers could become active again. A rejection at $80K would not automatically make the chart bearish. Bitcoin has climbed too far, too quickly, and a pullback would be normal. The first area I would watch is $72K–$74K. Holding that zone would keep the short-term structure intact and could create another opportunity for buyers. If $72K fails, the next important retest would be around $67K–$69K. Losing that area would weaken the breakout and place $65K back in focus. Below $65K, the probability of returning to the larger $60K–$62K support zone would increase considerably. Bullish scenario: BTC closes above $80K, holds the breakout and moves toward $85K–$90K. Bearish scenario: BTC gets rejected at $80K, loses $72K and retests $67K–$69K. For now, the rally is real, but chasing a vertical move directly below resistance offers a poor risk-to-reward setup. The better confirmation would come from a breakout and retest of $80K—or from a controlled pullback that allows buyers to defend one of the new support levels. Bitcoin has regained momentum. Now it needs to prove that this is more than just a short squeeze. This analysis is for educational purposes only and does not constitute financial advice.
