Two young Maltese weightlifters put in impressive performances at the 40th Subotica International Tournament in Serbia, competing against athletes from across Europe.Representing Malta in the 65kg category, Luke Stefan Micallef achieved a new personal best in the Snatch with 101kg before going on to lift 125kg in the Clean and Jerk, setting a new national record in the process.Micallef finished the competition with a combined total of 226kg, capping off a standout performance on the international stage.Meanwhile, Nathaniel Fenech competed in the 85kg category, recording 113kg in the Snatch and 146kg in the Clean and Jerk.His combined 259kg total marked a new personal best.The tournament brought together athletes from Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia and Malta, offering valuable international experience for the two young Maltese lifters.Their strong performances provide another positive sign for Maltese weightlifting as both athletes continue building towards future international competitions.Well done to both!•
