Wait 5 sec.

Three Maltese kayakers have completed an impressive 68km journey along Malta’s southern and western coastline, spending two days at sea and battling heat, wind and long stretches of towering cliffs.Jerome Ciantar, Sven Grima and Stephen Azzopardi set off from Birżebbuġa in the early hours of the morning, kayaking along the coast until they reached Ġnejna Bay in Mġarr. After spending the night at Ġnejna, the trio woke up early the following morning, got back into their kayaks and made the entire journey back to Birżebbuġa.By the end of the adventure, they had covered approximately 68km in just two days. The route gave them a unique view of some of Malta’s most impressive coastal scenery, taking them past Blue Grotto, Wied iż-Żurrieq, Għar Lapsi, Ras il-Ħamrija, Miġra l-Ferħa, Ras id-Dawwara and Fomm ir-Riħ, as well as caves, valleys and sheer cliffs. However, the journey was far from straightforward. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Large sections of Malta’s western coastline are surrounded by high cliffs, leaving the group with very few places to safely stop and rest. They also faced two particularly hot and sunny days, with conditions changing from calm seas to stretches of strong headwinds.“At times, simply continuing to paddle became both a physical and mental challenge,” the trio said.Despite the difficult conditions, all three completed the full route and made it safely back to Birżebbuġa after two days on the water.“It was exhausting, challenging and at times difficult, but ultimately an amazing experience and one that gave us an even greater appreciation of Malta’s coastline.”Stephen also runs the YouTube channel SteveKayak Fishing Malta, where he documents kayaking and fishing adventures around the Maltese Islands. A video capturing the full 68km challenge is expected to be released soon. And it appears this was only the beginning.Following the successful journey, the three friends say they are already planning an even bigger kayaking challenge for next year.Well done, guys! •
