Frank Lampard has a heated history with Arsenal ahead of his latest trip to north London.The former Chelsea midfielder takes his newly-promoted Coventry City side to the Emirates Stadium this weekend.Lampard returns to Arsenal on Friday almost two decades on from the start of a career-long feudGettyArsenal begin their Premier League title defence at home to the Sky Blues on Friday at 8pm, live on talkSPORT.Lampard has won just one of his six previous matches against the Gunners as a manager, a 2-1 win with Chelsea in December 2019.However, it was a meeting between Chelsea and Arsenal during his playing career which sparked an 11-year feud which extended beyond his retirement.Arsenal clash sparks Lampard feudIt stemmed from the 2007 League Cup final between the two sides in at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.The Blues ran out 2-1 winners thanks to a brace from Didier Drogba in the Welsh capital.Their victory threatened to be marred by a stoppage time brawl involving players from both sides, including Lampard.His involvement in the melee saw him clash with Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas, leading to a long-running feud between the pair.The scuffle had broken out after Kolo Toure reacted furiously to a challenge from Chelsea substitute John Obi Mikel.Lampard and Fabregas were the first to join the scene, with the latter dragging his rival away by his neck.This prompted a fresh bust-up before coaching staff rushed onto the field from both benches in a bid to restore order.Lampard and Fabregas were involved in a scuffle during the 2007 League Cup finalGettyManagers Jose Mourinho, who ran onto the pitch, and Arsene Wenger were amongst those to attempt to calm their players.Words were exchanged between Lampard and Fabregas on the pitch before referee Howard Webb regained control of proceedings.Both players were booked, whilst red cards were shown to Mikel, Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor, for allegedly striking Wayne Bridge.However, the repercussions would continue beyond the final whistle as Lampard’s feud with Fabregas lasted beyond the end of his playing days in 2017.Lampard’s rivalry with FabregasHe even revealed it played a part in his Chelsea exit in 2014, with the club’s all-time leading scorer released a month before Fabregas was signed.The Spaniard was ultimately signed as Lampard’s replacement, with the pair meeting once more in a 1-1 draw between Manchester City and Chelsea in September 2014, with the ex-Blues hero scoring.Then Chelsea boss Mourinho even came onto the pitch to calm the tensions between playersGettyLampard reflected on their rivalry in 2017, telling BT Sport, now TNT Sports: “We never played together.
