The court is being shown footage of Yorgen Fenech’s four-hour police interrogation following his November 2019 arrest, with Inspector Kurt Zahra back on the witness stand after beginning his testimony yesterday. Zahra was one of the investigators involved in the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder investigation.During the interrogation, Fenech told police that former prime minister Joseph Muscat, Johann Cremona and Adrian Vella all knew about Keith Schembri’s alleged involvement in the murder.“These three people 100% know about Keith Schembri… why do you think the Prime Minister called for me?” Fenech told investigators.Fenech claimed Muscat had summoned him to Castille in January 2019 because he was already being monitored by the Malta Security Service, something he said Schembri had told him.According to Fenech, Muscat asked whether he trusted Melvin Theuma and what was contained in Theuma’s secret recordings. He claimed Muscat also told him police would eventually raid Theuma because of “external pressure”, using suspected clandestine gambling as a pretext while actually searching for the recordings.Fenech alleged that Muscat told him to speak to Theuma and make sure the tapes were not found. He told police that Schembri had first raised the idea of killing Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2015, allegedly telling him to “find someone to do it” and offering €30,000. Fenech said he did not act on the request, but claimed Schembri repeatedly asked him about it and mentioned that someone had been staking out Caruana Galizia’s home. He said the initial plan eventually fell through.Fenech later said Theuma became involved and told him that €120,000 was needed for the murder. The allegations were made by Fenech during his police interrogation and have not been established as fact. Schembri and Muscat have denied involvement in Caruana Galizia’s murder.•
