A video showing a heated confrontation between a New York City bus driver and a woman trying to board the bus has drawn attention on TikTok, gathering more than 71,600 views. The clip, posted by TikTok user @humble_t6 under the name “pitchaz,” shows the woman pleading with the driver to open the doors as she tries to get to work. The bus, operated by transit company Transdev and numbered 2146, was running route N40. The video does not show the moment the doors allegedly closed on the woman’s hand, and this claim has not been independently confirmed. In the caption of the video, the poster wrote, “this is the life of poor people,” followed by, “why not open the door smh this woman going to work.” Woman says she was rushing to catch the bus before it pulled away The video opens inside the bus, showing the driver, a woman wearing a blue uniform shirt and a yellow safety vest, resting her chin on her hands. She says, “Being respectful, I can open this.” An off-screen voice then says, “Open up the door for her.” @humble_t6 this is the life of poor people why not open the door smh this woman going to work ♬ original sound – pitchaz The camera then shifts outside to the bus’s front passenger doors, where a woman wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and a black head covering is seen pulling at the closed doors. She is carrying a purple tote bag and holding a phone. On-screen text on the bus lists a fare of $3.00, along with payment details for OMNY and exact change, plus seating information showing 39 seats, 28 standee spots, and two wheelchair spaces. The woman trying to board says, “What’s that? What the hell is the problem? She’s leaving early. I’ve been here for over a minute now. She leaving early. I’m trying to go to work.” The off-screen voice then asks her, “What you doing out here?” She replies, “I’m trying to go to work.” The voice asks, “Are you serious?” and she responds, “I’m very serious. She’s leaving early.” The voice also tells her, “Yes, you’re still behind that line.” The woman disputes this, saying, “I was there. She, she rushed the clothes. She’s leaving early.” She continues, explaining why she needed to catch that particular bus: “She’s leaving early. I have to get to work. If I don’t take this bus, I will be late. I got too much s–t to do.” She adds, “She could have been open the door,” as the driver is briefly seen again through the bus’s glass window. Public transit frustrations are widespread, as when a Brisbane woman took a bus to a new job only for it to go rogue after one stop.  Commenters on the video were divided over who was at fault in the exchange. Some argued the driver mishandled the situation, while others said the driver may have been following transit rules about not opening doors once a bus has left the curb. One commenter wrote, “THE BUS OPERATOR IS GETTING FIRED!!!” Another asked, “What’s the bus drivers problem? Just open apologize and keep working.” Other viewers defended the driver’s actions. One commenter wrote, “the bus driver did the right thing. certain rules they follow about opening the door once it’s left the curb.” Another said, “I can guarantee we missing a big part.” Some commenters raised broader concerns about how bus drivers treat passengers. One wrote, “Alot of those drivers are just nasty/mean for no reason to the customers.” Another commented, “No different than the police. I think they forget they work for us smh.” Neither the woman seen trying to board the bus nor the driver has been identified by name in the video or its captions. Transdev, the company that operates the bus, has not issued a public statement addressing the video as of this writing.  The video does not show how the confrontation was resolved or whether the woman was eventually let on the bus. Incidents involving city bus operators and passengers have raised concerns about accessibility and treatment, such as when a Los Angeles woman was allegedly not allowed on a bus after requesting a ramp as a wheelchair user.
