I’ve recently been building a portfolio for fragrance copywriting. I have zero experience but when it occurred to me that the job exists it’s like a light switched on in my head as I love both storytelling and fragrance deeply, and prior to this never felt like I had a passion for work. I wanted to share a couple of my pieces just for general feedback, and to ask if I’ve got the right idea. I know they’re a bit dramatic and long-winded so just asking for any advice or tips. ROSE OF NO MAN’S LAND - BYREDO A melancholic, honeyed fragrance. Midday sunshine beams onto the remnants of a white-walled chapel along a countryside road. A sole, dried Turkish rose sways in the zephyr. A pink pepper-spiced, quiet sweetness of raspberry bloom fills the air as afternoon hours creep closer. Endless, sun-dried meadows surround the chapel where smoky papyrus and warm amber lend the landscape a woody backbone. SHORT-FORM COPY Rose of No Man's Land is an airy scent that opens with Turkish rose delicately spiced by pink pepper. It later reveals a sparkling raspberry bloom which dries down into a smoky, woody base of papyrus and amber. DA LAT - D’ANNAM Da Lat opens with an astringent red wine note, intertwined with piney, dry juniper. A rich, evergreen pine forest takes shape around you, far removed from the movement of the city. The air starts to feel aromatic and freshly spicy as heart notes of peony and cedarwood quietly intermingle. You overlook the sea of green before you, delicately lit by the crescent moon above. The warmth of red wine lingers as you give in to the musky, rounded dry-down of smoky nagarmotha, softened by a dewy, vinous sweetness and floral traces. SHORT-FORM COPY A sophisticated scent with a coarse opening. Red wine and juniper weave into lightly spiced, dewy florals of rose and peony.
