Disney fans have been waiting a long time for a meaningful update on Villains Land.Disney announced the massive Magic Kingdom expansion at D23 in 2024, immediately making it one of the most anticipated projects coming to Walt Disney World. But since then, official information has come slowly.We’ve seen artwork. We’ve heard Disney talk about its creative direction. We’ve watched construction preparations begin around Magic Kingdom.But fans have still been waiting to actually see more of what Disney is creating.Now, two years after that original announcement, Villains Land is finally starting to come together. D23 2026 is underway, and Disney has officially revealed another piece of the project.Here’s what Disney just showed off at this year’s event.Disney Has Kept Villains Land Mostly Under WrapsWhen Disney announced Villains Land in 2024, the company gave fans a dramatic piece of concept art showing a dark new corner of Magic Kingdom.It looked unlike anything else currently inside the park.The artwork depicted eerie architecture, towering structures, twisted scenery, and an environment centered on some of Disney’s most famous villains. There appeared to be several major structures hidden throughout the landscape, immediately raising questions about which villains could be featured in attractions.But the concept art only gave us so much information.Disney later revealed more about the land’s architectural approach, but the company hasn’t provided detailed looks at individual attractions or a complete tour of what guests will eventually experience.For the most part, fans have been studying that original artwork and waiting.Until now.Credit: DisneyD23 Just Gave Fans A Brand-New LookDisney has revealed two physical models featuring trees designed for Villains Land at D23 2026.While this isn’t a massive model revealing every attraction and building inside the expansion, it gives fans another look at how Imagineers plan to establish the land’s unusual atmosphere.And these definitely aren’t your typical Magic Kingdom trees.The first model is a tree with long, arching branches that appear designed to create an entryway. The other tree sculpture has an eerie shape and long, creepy branches extending outward.It’s a small detail, but one that fits perfectly with the Villains Land aesthetic Disney has teased so far.Rather than relying entirely on buildings and attraction facades to establish the atmosphere, Imagineers appear to be using the landscape itself to make this section of Magic Kingdom feel darker and more mysterious.We’re hoping Disney reveals considerably more during the park announcements at D23. For now, though, seeing another physical piece of Villains Land makes the project feel a little more real.And there are plenty of rumors about what could eventually hide beyond those twisted trees.VILLAINS LAND CONCEPT MODELS REVEALED pic.twitter.com/yYQq6bMoSA— Drew Smith @ D23 (@DrewDisneyDude) August 14, 2026Major Attractions Still Hang Over the ProjectDisney has confirmed that Villains Land will include major attractions, dining, and shopping, but several reported additions remain unofficial.One of the biggest rumors involves The Emperor’s New Groove (2000).Reports have suggested Disney could build a family-friendly roller coaster based on the animated film, potentially featuring characters such as Yzma and Kronk.Another reported addition would give Maleficent a major attraction of her own. Recent rumors have pointed toward an indoor dark ride or water-based attraction featuring the iconic villain from Sleeping Beauty (1959).Then there’s Hades.Reports have suggested the villain from Hercules (1997) could host a dinner show, potentially joined by Pain, Panic, and other Disney villains.A smaller third attraction has also entered the conversation. That ride could reportedly be a spinner similar in basic format to Dumbo the Flying Elephant, but themed around Ursula from The Little Mermaid (1989).Themed restaurants, shops, character experiences, and other additions could help fill out the land.Disney hasn’t completely confirmed those individual attraction concepts, however. Until the company announces them, they should still be treated as rumors rather than Villains Land’s final lineup.D23 could finally change that.Credit: DisneyVillains Land Isn’t the Only Magic Kingdom ExpansionVillains Land may be generating plenty of attention, but Disney is also giving fans a much closer look at Piston Peak National Park.Disney revealed a massive physical model of the Cars-inspired Magic Kingdom expansion at D23, providing a detailed look at the land’s overall layout and theming.The model also offers a look at the area’s second attraction, giving fans a better idea of how Disney plans to build out the entire new section of Frontierland.Piston Peak National Park will transform a huge portion of Magic Kingdom following the permanent closures of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat.The expansion will feature rugged wilderness, mountainous scenery, waterways, trails, and attractions inspired by the world of Cars (2006).Disney has already begun preparing the area for its transformation, and the new D23 model makes the scale of the project much easier to understand.The land is expected to open sometime between late 2027 and 2029 as Magic Kingdom moves through one of the largest periods of expansion in its history.Credit: DisneyMagic Kingdom’s Next EraFor two years, Villains Land has largely existed through concept art, announcements, permits, and plenty of speculation.That makes this first physical model particularly interesting.Even though Disney hasn’t pulled back the curtain on the entire land yet, those twisted Villains Land trees give us another physical piece of the world Imagineers are building.Combined with the enormous Piston Peak National Park model, D23 is offering a much clearer look at where Magic Kingdom is headed next.Now, the biggest question is whether Disney has even more Villains Land surprises in store before D23 comes to an end.The post Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land Revealed: Disney Drops 1st Physical Model at D23 appeared first on Inside the Magic.
