Nature Materials, Published online: 14 August 2026; doi:10.1038/s41563-026-02717-0Electrical doping is commonly used in organic optoelectronics to tune the electronic properties. A mechanism using unstable radical anions of p-doping agents increases the hole densities in the organic semiconductor host by up to two orders of magnitude compared with regular p-dopants.
