Alex Crook brutally labelled Ruben Amorim the worst Manchester United manager of the post-Alex Ferguson era in a scathing rant.The Portuguese was sacked as Red Devils head coach in January after a difficult 14-month tenure at Old Trafford, and has since taken charge of Italian giants AC Milan.Amorim’s time at Old Trafford came to an end in January after a poor run of form and criticism of the boardAFPWith United paying a huge £9.2million to buy Amorim out of his contract at Sporting Lisbon when they appointed him in November 2024, huge things were expected from his reign.But the 41-year-old’s time in charge quickly turned into a nightmare, as he oversaw a number of historic new lows.He managed just 24 wins in his 63 games in charge across all competitions, registering a 38.1 per cent win rate – the worst of any United manager since legendary manager Ferguson’s exit in 2013. In his first season at Old Trafford, the Red Devils finished a record-low 16th-in the Premier League, as well as losing in the Europa League final to Tottenham.While Amorim’s side fared better in the first half of last season – sitting seventh at the time of his sacking – his shortcomings were highlighted when Michael Carrick took over in January and guided the team to a third-place finish.‘He isn’t very good’Eight months on from his sacking at Old Trafford, Amorim was reunited with his old team on Saturday, with his AC Milan side currently taking on Man United in their final pre-season friendly in Wroclaw, Poland.But the Portuguese already finds himself under the cosh in his new job, having failed to win so far in pre-season – including a recent 3-0 loss to Chelsea – sparking early fears he could be sacked.And talkSPORT’s Chief Football Correspondent and huge United fan Alex Crook was quick to tear into Amorim ahead of his reunion with his old team, insisting he hasn’t learnt from his mistakes at Old Trafford as he highlighted his refusal to change tactics.Speaking on talkSPORT, he began: ”It’s reassuring to see that he played a back three in that friendly [against Chelsea]. Leopards never change their spots. “And actually, even his terminology was the same. He said after the game: ‘We knew we’d have to suffer’. But Crook quickly dismissed this, firing back: “Well done. Against 10 men, Everton have got two strikers who never score a goal, and he brings on Mason Mount as a wing-back because he doesn’t want to change the system.”While Crook piled into Amorim, co-host Matterface chose to highlight the progress made since Carrick first took charge on an interim basis.The talkSPORT pundit said of United’s new permanent boss: “He gets it. He knows where Manchester United should be.
