Jurors in the trial of Yorgen Fenech heard testimony on Monday that he had allegedly received a “script” from former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri through doctor Adrian Vella.Inspector Kurt Zahra told the court that investigators were informed Vella had seen Fenech crossing out sections of the document while complaining that Schembri was “indoctrinating” him on what to say.The testimony formed part of Zahra’s account of the investigation into Daphne Caruana Galizia’s assassination, which he retraced for jurors throughout Monday afternoon.Zahra also told the court that Vella had informed investigators about communications between Fenech and Schembri, including alleged reassurances that Fenech would not be arrested.According to testimony presented in court, Fenech had also claimed that plans were discussed to take him to Gozo while lawyers were sought for him. Vella denied helping Fenech escape and instead told investigators that discussions about private jets and Mexico had come from Fenech’s brother Franco.Earlier in the sitting, Judge Edwina Grima ruled that Zahra could explain what emerged from the investigation but could not provide his own interpretation of Fenech’s statements. Jurors are expected to watch the audiovisual recording of Fenech’s police interrogation during tomorrow’s sitting.•
