A 31-year-old man from The Gambia, who resides in Gżira, has been arrested in St Julian’s after police allegedly caught him in possession of various drugs prepared for trafficking.The arrest took place during a late-night operation carried out by several sections of the Malta Police Force in the St Julian’s area.According to police, officers were patrolling the Santa Rita Steps when they noticed a suspicious individual. As they approached him, the man allegedly attempted to flee after spotting the police.He was quickly stopped and arrested, with officers carrying out a search on the spot.Police said they found 31 green pills divided into 14 packets, five pink pills divided into four packets, 15 packets of suspected cannabis, 11 packets of suspected cocaine and two packets containing a yellow crystalline substance believed to be amphetamine.Cash and two mobile phones were also allegedly found in his possession.A subsequent search of the man’s residence led to the discovery of more packets containing substances suspected to be cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine, as well as pills believed to be ecstasy.The suspect was taken to Police Headquarters for further questioning as investigations continue.He is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.•
