Environmental NGO Moviment Graffitti has launched Comino Watch, a new initiative aimed at monitoring and reporting any works linked to the controversial redevelopment of the former Comino hotel site.The move comes after the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) approved the uprooting of hundreds of trees within the project area, a decision that has sparked backlash from environmental groups and campaigners.Graffitti is urging members of the public to report any demolition, excavation, construction activity, tree removal or transportation of heavy machinery to the island. Reports can be made directly to the NGO, which says it wants to ensure any developments on site are immediately documented.The group argues that the approved project could pave the way for a major expansion on the island, including a hotel, villas and multiple swimming pools, bringing increased year-round activity to one of Malta’s most environmentally sensitive locations.Moviment Graffitti also pointed out that legal proceedings challenging the Planning Authority permit are still ongoing, despite the recent ERA decision.The NGO said it is encouraging supporters to join its Save Comino network so that information can be shared quickly and action coordinated if works begin.The Comino redevelopment remains one of Malta’s most closely watched environmental controversies, with NGOs insisting the island’s protected status should take precedence over further development.Do you support the launch of Comino Watch, or do you believe the project should be allowed to proceed?•
