Swieqi Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace has condemned what he described as “arrogance and rowdy tourism” after sharing CCTV footage that appears to show a man damaging a parked car during the early hours of the morning. The video shows a group of men walking down a residential street when one of them suddenly turns towards a parked vehicle and strikes its side-view mirror before casually continuing on his way.According to Galea Pace, four vehicles were damaged in the incident, affecting four separate families and residents.“Four cars. Four families and residents affected by arrogance and rowdy tourism,” he wrote. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)The deputy mayor said the incident has been reported to the police and expressed confidence that those responsible will be identified.“They have been reported, and I have no doubt that our excellent Police officers in Swieqi will identify those responsible,” he said.“The mentality of ‘we come to Malta, and Swieqi, because there’s no enforcement’ ends here.”“You are welcome in our locality, but you will respect our residents, our property and our laws. Enough is enough.”The latest incident comes just weeks after another high-profile vandalism case in Swieqi sparked nationwide discussion.Earlier this month, a 27-year-old Indian national was identified through CCTV footage after damaging a parked Audi in Triq il-Keffa. He later admitted in court to vandalising both a car and a motorcycle in Swieqi, as well as breaching the peace and being intoxicated in public.Following his guilty plea, the court handed down a suspended prison sentence and recommended his expulsion from Malta. The Malta Police Force subsequently confirmed that the man had been deported to India. At the time, Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield said the deportation sent a clear message that both residents and visitors are expected to respect Malta’s laws and social norms. The deployment also marks a significant escalation in enforcement efforts, with members of the Armed Forces of Malta joining police officers on the streets of Swieqi.Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace said the joint police and army presence was intended to act as a visible deterrent following weeks of complaints from residents over late-night disturbances, vandalism and anti-social behaviour. The case reignited concerns among residents about vandalism, anti-social behaviour and damage to private property in the locality, particularly during the busy summer months. With another incident now caught on camera, Galea Pace’s comments are likely to add further pressure for stronger enforcement in residential areas frequently affected by nuisance and disorder. What do you make of this incident?Video credits to Jordan Galea Pace•
