The team surrounding GI Kentucky Derby and GI Belmont Stakes winner Golden Tempo (Curlin) will be honored by the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters with the Mr. Fitz Award for typifying the spirit of racing. NTWAB will also present jockey Johnny Velazquez with the Joe Palmer Award, honoring service to horse racing; the late Daily Racing Form reporter and handicapper Mary Rampellini with the Walter Haight Award for career excellence in turf writing; and Team TVG/FanDuel Racing with the Jim McKay Award for excellence in broadcasting.Stable Recovery, launched by Frank Taylor and Christian Countzler to help individuals recover from substance abuse, support them on their path to sobriety and find meaningful employment within the Thoroughbred racing industry, is NTWAB's Bill Mooney Award honoree. The Bill Mooney Award recognizes those who have demonstrated “courage in the face of tremendous adversity.”The honorees will be recognized at the NTWAB's annual awards dinner Oct. 28 at Malone's Prime, located at 3373 Tates Creek Road in Lexington. The annual awards dinner serves as the NTWAB's sole fundraiser.
