West Ham have urged supporters not to sing a chant with an “anti-Palestine message” heard after Manor Solomon scored in the 2-2 draw away to Burnley in the Championship on Sunday. The club’s Israeli supporters’ group, Israeli Hammers, said in a statement

The club’s Israeli supporters’ group, Israeli Hammers, said in a statement that it fully supported the club’s position. “As the Israeli Hammers, we don’t encourage hatred towards Palestinians, or towards any group of people,” the group said. “Football should bring people together, and our message has always been one of peace, respect and support for West Ham. “We also believe Manor should be treated first and foremost as what he is — a footballer. We think it is important to acknowledge the amount of hostility and abuse, including antisemitic abuse, Manor has received online since signing for West Ham, much of it directed at him simply because he is Israeli. “We also fully support the statement issued by West Ham, encouraging supporters to back the team in a way that celebrates our players and represents the values of the club. We would much rather see supporters judging Manor by what he does on the pitch without turning his nationality into a political battleground.” submitted by /u/Sparky-moon [link] [comments]
