The resilience of India Inc, as noted in the editorial, is largely driven by domestic consumption, since Indian companies continue to face significant headwinds from unfavourable external factors such as US tariffs and the conflict in West Asia.Although rising energy costs pushed up the prices paid by end-users, companies are absorbing a portion of the additional costs rather than passing the entire burden on to consumers.This cost absorption has eventually put pressure on corporate margins. Most importantly, India’s energy reserves have been one of the factors helping to contain pressure on domestic energy prices, even as several major economies have been forced to raise energy prices by 20-35 per cent.S LakshminarayananKo. Puvanur & Post, TNCredit-deposit dynamicApropos ‘Dynamics of deposit, credit growth’ (August 19), bank credit must grow in tandem with the underlying deposit base and productive demand. Excessive credit expansion can fuel inflation and asset-price imbalances, while inadequate credit can choke investment, consumption and economic growth. The need, therefore, is not maximum credit growth but the right quantum of credit, calibrated to deposit mobilisation, liquidity conditions and genuine economic activity. A balanced credit-deposit dynamic will help banks support growth without compromising financial stability.NR NagarajanSivakasi, TNDiversion of foreign fundsApropos ‘IT Dept launches verification of 394 entities and 36 professionals for suspicious forex remittances’ (August 19), besides substantial forex remittance data already in possession of the Income Tax Department through various sources and IT returns, the best and most credible investigation can be carried out by ground level physical verification by serving notices and summons. Income tax laws provide ample powers to reopen past cases. The diversion of foreign funds for ulterior motives is punishable in multiple laws and should be strictly dealt with.Vinod JohriDelhiPublished on August 19, 2026Sign into Unlock benefits!Access 10 free stories per monthAccess to comment on every storySign up/Manage to our newslettersGet notified by email for early preview to new features, discounts & offers${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
