Six people were taken to hospital this afternoon after a traffic accident involving a prison van in Birżebbuġa.The collision happened at around 2.45pm in Triq Ħal Far and involved a Renault Trafic prison van and an Isuzu Elf 250 truck.According to police, nine people were involved in the crash.The prison van was being driven by a 67-year-old man from Birżebbuġa, while the truck was being driven by a 46-year-old man from Żebbuġ.Seven male passengers were also travelling in the prison van at the time of the collision. Authorities have not confirmed whether they were inmates or employees of the Correctional Services Agency.Those inside the van included five Maltese men, a 26-year-old Syrian man and a 36-year-old man from Niger.The six people hospitalised were both drivers, two Maltese passengers aged 45 and 51, another Maltese passenger aged 38, and the 26-year-old Syrian man.While the extent of their injuries has not yet been officially confirmed, police said none of those injured appear to be in critical condition.Investigations into the crash are ongoing.•
