Police Constable Johann Vella has been discharged from hospital nearly a month after he was seriously injured in the Ta’ Giorni shooting.The milestone was marked with an emotional send-off shared by the Malta Police Union, which posted a video showing Vella leaving hospital to a round of applause from fellow officers.In the footage, senior police officials and colleagues from the Special Intervention Unit and Rapid Intervention Unit can be seen lining the hospital entrance, clapping as Vella makes his way out and into a waiting vehicle.“Yesterday marked an important milestone for our colleague PC Johann Vella,” the Malta Police Union said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)Vella was shot while on duty on 24th July during the incident that left both him and fellow officer Omar Sharif injured.His injuries were described in court as life-threatening, with doctors revealing that pellets struck his face, neck and chest, causing extensive damage and requiring emergency treatment.The union said Vella will now continue his recovery outside hospital and wished him “continued strength and progress” on his road to recovery.The emotional video has since drawn messages of support from members of the public, many of whom wished the officer a speedy recovery after weeks of treatment.Video credits to @maltapoliceunion•
