Happy New Music Friday! We’ve worked hard this week, and we’ve earned some new tunes. There are definitely some eclectic elements at play on this week’s list. It leans slightly more on the heavy side, but we’re opening with a tried-and-true banger. You’ll dig it.“Disguise” by Tobe Nwigwe, Sia, and Fat NwigweI find the Nwigwes to be such a compelling musical family. There’s a power to them that’s palpable, but unattainable. You either have it, or you don’t, and they have it.Tobe Nwigwe’s Hood Hymns (2024) is a top 5 record of the last 10 years for me, easy. His wife Fat has one of the most unique and assertive voices in all of modern hip-hop.This week, the duo drops “Disguise”, a collab with iconic Australian singer Sia. The track is built on some funky instrumentation with all three at the absolute peak of their game. Truly some magnificent art happening here.Tobe’s new album, The Bridge, is set for release on October 9th.“Won’t Be Disgraced” by God’s HateFive years after their last project, and one year after going on hiatus. God’s Hate is f**king back. The hardcore stalwarts dropped a new EP, Won’t Be Disgraced, with a title track that goes so unbelievably hard. Fueled by the loss of the band’s beloved friend Bo Lueders, God’s Hate is letting it all out, and the catharsis is healing.“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Spike and the Gimme Gimmes Me First and the Gimme Gimme’s are dead! Long live Spike and the Gimme Gimmes! The world’s greatest punk rock cover band is back, and they’re bringing a whole slew of new covers with them. This week, the band drops their raucous cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”. It’s the second single from their forthcoming new album, Spike and the Gimme Gimmes S**t The Bed, and it’s a f**king BLAST.What, you expected anything less?“Static Planet” by Doom MutualLegendary rock producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones, Korn, etc.) has launched a brand new record label, Hiss Recordings, and the imprint’s first signee is Doom Mutual. Based in Nashville, the alt-gaze duo of Daphne Browdy and David Gestiehr has shaped a sound that pays homage to 90s shoegaze and alt-rock while also being wholly in 2026.The band has a new 2-song EP (“Static Planet”/”Crowbar”), and you can check out “Static Planet”—which I highly recommend—above.“Pain” by ThroesReal talk, I happened on this song while scrolling through YouTube and godd**n am I glad I did.Throes deliver a metallic-hardcore sound that scratches an itch. It’s reminiscent of old Advent or Dead Hearts. The band’s newest single, “Pain”, is a testament to their fortitude and unmitigated fury. (Also, we love a band with a drummer-vocalist, don’t we folks?)Throes will release their sophomore album, The Colorless Light of Emptiness, on Oct. 16, from Church Road Records.Photo Courtesy of Tobe Nwigwe and YouTubeThe post New Music Friday: 5 Songs You Need to Hear This Week (8/21) appeared first on VICE.
