I think the PGA Tour is in a really good spot.”McIlroy added that it would be a “tough road back” for those looking to return to the US-based tour.“I’m not part of the discussions but I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to be welcomed back straight away,” he said.“They were offered this returning member programme back in February, the one Brooks [Koepka] took, but that has come and gone, and I think it was said at the time that the deal they get going forward if they decide to come back would not be as good as the one Brooks got.“So I’d say it will be a tough, tough road back.”‘I don’t care’Majesticks GC co-captain Westwood took umbrage with former Ryder Cup teammate McIlroy’s comments and hit back at the Northern Irishman.“I really don’t care what people think, to be perfectly honest,” Westwood said on TNT Sports in response to questions about his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship invite.“I think it illustrates the fact that people like LIV players playing in their events, promoters and sponsors, no matter which tour they’re on. I thought Scottie [Scheffler] answered the question well, and Rory’s answer was just typical of Rory, really.“It wasn’t well thought out. There are a lot of players on this tour who bring value to tournaments.”Contrary to McIlroy’s comments, US golfer Scheffler feels the LIV Golf stars would strengthen the PGA Tour.“When you look at higher levels of LIV Golf there are definitely players that would provide a value to the tour and guys that I love competing against as well.”The 2026 LIV Golf season continues this weekend in Indianapolis with Lee Canter ahead after the first round.
