England have reached a third consecutive World Cup quarter-final for the first time in 56 years thanks to a thrilling 3-2 win over co-hosts Mexico.Harry Kane was once again ten-man England’s match-winning hero while Jude Bellingham scored twice in the delayed last-16 clash at the Azteca Stadium – which was pushed back by one hour due to bad weather.Kane brought up his sixth World Cup goal in North America with the winning goal against MexicoGettyReal Madrid midfielder Bellingham fired in a quickfire double in a frenetic spell which saw three goals scored in a six-minute period.Saved by the BellBellingham‘s first of the match came in the 36th minute, as he headed home from close range by getting on the end of Bukayo Saka‘s cross.And he then put the 1966 winners two goals to the good two minutes later when he tucked away Kane‘s squared pass across the face of goal.But Mexico halved the deficit in the 42nd minute through Julian Quinones – the top scorer in the 2025/26 Saudi Pro League season with 33 goals.Bringing up his fourth of the competition to become Mexico’s joint-leading scorer in World Cup history, the forward reacted quickest to fire into the roof of the net after England failed to clear away a free-kick.England started the second half on the front foot, and almost restored their two-goal lead through Nico O’Reilly, but the Manchester City left-back’s strike smashed off the post.However, England’s right-back curse at the World Cup continued as Jarell Quansah was sent off for a high tackle on Jesus Gallardo in the 54th minute to become the first Three Lions star to be sent off since Wayne Rooney against Portugal in 2006.But ever the man for the big occasion, Kane then put England 3-1 up from the penalty spot in the 60th minute for his sixth goal of the tournament.He now needs just one more knockout goal to hold the England record of most goals scored beyond the group stages, with the Bayern Munich marksman level with Gary Lineker on six.The drama wasn’t done there though, as Kane was then penalised for a kick on Brian Gutierrez inside the box when he looked to clear away the ball, which was duly converted by Raul Jimenez in the 69th minute.Bellingham headed England into the lead after being picked out by SakaGettyThe Real Madrid man then doubled the Three Lions’ lead moments later from close rangeGettyMexico pushed for a late equaliser in their quest to reach a first World Cup quarter-final since 1986.But Thomas Tuchel‘s side stood firm – swatting away every dangerous phase of play to set up a last-eight clash against Norway on Saturday.Legendary talkSPORT broadcaster Adrian Durham was effusive in his praise for England when giving his post-match analysis, as he said: “They’ve left Mexico in tears, there are players in green shirts crying their eyes out.“That was proper England, graft, hard work, and you have filled a nation with pride.
