Wagering on U.S. races for the second quarter of 2026 declined 2.54% from 2025 figures, according to statistics released by Equibase Monday. Through two quarters of the current year, $3,197,641,353 has been wagered on U.S. races, compared to $3,280,921,802 for that same period in 2025.Available purses increased 3.51%, from $329,119,590 through two quarters in 2025 to $340,661,621 this year. Race days during that period fell from 997 to 978, while total races fell from 8,004 to 7,897.For the month of June, wagering on U.S. races was down 4.70% from 2025, with $956,841,252 wagered in June 2025 and $911,860,943 wagered during the month in 2026.Available purses during the month rose 2.74%, from $114,593,051 a year ago to $117,737,891 this year. Race days declined from 380 in June 2025 to 374 in June 2026.
