These last few years have been a wild ride when it comes to indie games. We’ve gotten so used to the domination of AAA studios and publishers, backed by untold billions, but now that’s almost a thing of the past. Time and again, small titles, made by teams smaller still, are making tremendous amounts of money and shipping so many copies it’d make any suited-up executive’s head spin. And Meccha Chameleon is only the latest in a series of amazing solo-dev or small-team indies that are breaking the industry. Having officially sold over 15 million copies in less than a month, Meccha Chameleon is easily the fastest- and best-selling game of 2026 and certainly one of the fastest-selling games of all time. Cyberpunk 2077, as big as it is, took over three years to reach that same number, which speaks volumes about the reach and approachability of cheap, fun, simple indie games. The news of this amazing milestone was first shared by the game’s creator, lemorion1224. The Japanese-language announcement thanked everyone who bought and played the game, all 15 million of y’all out there, and even said that a collaboration with “a famous Japanese person” drops next week. I have no knowledge of the Japanese pop-cultural scene, but it only makes sense with lemorion apparently being Japanese themself. 《めっちゃカメレオン》売上1⃣5⃣0️⃣0️⃣万本達成!ありがとうございます!❓来週は有名日本人とのコラボが開催されます pic.twitter.com/ZP2B4pY4ID— LEMORION🌌レモリオン (@lemorion1224) July 5, 2026 Even leading up to its release, Meccha Chameleon was making rounds around the internet, with some Instagram posts I saw having over two million likes with the game not even being out yet. Once it did drop, it started selling like hotcakes, and I immediately hopped on with my pals to see what was going on. I went into more detail about that in a dedicated feature article, but tldr: the game is prop hunt, but instead of picking a prop, you paint yourself to resemble one and blend into the environment. Your imagination is the only limiting factor here, and the skill ceiling is as high as the sky itself. So, if you’re somehow not one of these 15 million gigachads, then now’s your time to hop into Meccha Chameleon for just seven bucks. 0The post We have 2026’s best-selling game so far—and it’s a single-dev indie appeared first on Destructoid.
