Residents of Nyanoa in the Upper West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region are appealing to the government to urgently rehabilitate the deteriorating bridge over the Densu River, warning that its current condition poses a serious danger to lives and livelihoods.According to the residents, years of neglect have left the bridge with deep cracks, broken sections and a weakened structure, making it hazardous for motorists, pedestrians and other road users. They said the situation becomes even more dangerous during the rainy season when the Densu River overflows, increasing the risk of accidents and making the bridge difficult to use.The bridge serves as a vital link between Nyanoa and neighbouring communities, providing access to schools, health facilities, markets and farmlands.Residents told Adom News that the deteriorating state of the bridge is disrupting economic activities, affecting the transportation of farm produce and making it difficult for people to access essential services. They called on the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Upper West Akim Municipal Assembly and other relevant authorities to intervene before the bridge collapses and claims lives. Some community elders also appealed for the immediate rehabilitation or reconstruction of the bridge, stressing that prompt action would protect lives and property while improving transportation, healthcare access, education and economic activities in the area. The residents warned that unless urgent measures are taken, the bridge could become impassable, further isolating the community and exposing road users to greater danger.
