A total of 90 foals, yearlings and two-year-olds will parade before judges at Haras du Pin on Thursday, July 23 for the latest edition of Le National de l'Obstacle, the conformation show dedicated to young National Hunt-bred horses.Organised by the ANCCO (Association Normande de Chevaux de Course d'Obstacle) in the Olympic-standard equestrian complex on the historic Haras du Pin estate, Le National de l'Obstacle has showcased a whole host of future winners over jumps, including the great mare L'Autonomie and the high-class Asterion Forlonge.More recently, King Rasko Grey proved himself one of the leading novice hurdlers in Britain and Ireland during the latest season, having previously appeared at Le National de l'Obstacle in 2020 when presented as a foal by breeders Michael Douguet and Laura Pilard. Now trained by Willie Mullins, the son of Galiway won the G1 Turners Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and G1 Champion Novice Hurdle at the Punchestown Festival earlier this year.This year's judge of honour is Jérôme Delaunay, who is now firmly established as one of the top 10 National Hunt trainers in France. As in previous years, the top graduates in each category will be rewarded with nominations to leading stallions such as Beaumec de Houelle, Jigme, Léon du Berlais and 2027 newcomer Shannon Maestro, among other prizes.The show is reserved to foals, yearlings and two-year-olds from across France, whether thoroughbred, AQPS or Anglo-Arab, provided their pedigree points towards a career over jumps.Beyond the competition itself, Le National de l'Obstacle remains a social fixture on the Normandy breeding calendar.
