In the summer of 2025, Real Madrid were among the clubs linked with a move for Martin Zubimendi, but Arsenal won the race for his signature. However, the midfielder wanted to join Madrid and moved to Arsenal only because the Spanish club did not follow up on its interest.Xabi Alonso had specifically asked Madrid to sign Zubimendi, but the club insisted that it already had enough midfielders and did not need to recruit another player. Madrid are now struggling in that position, however, and have opened the door to signing him as they consider a summer move to correct their earlier mistake.Zubimendi remains open to joining Madrid, and although the transfer did not happen at the time, it could still be completed during either of the next two transfer windows. Football365 claims that the World Cup winner is keen on the move and would want Arsenal to agree to sell him if Madrid intensify their interest as expected.Madrid Reconsider ZubimendiThe midfielder has struggled for regular playing time this season, but Mikel Arteta still considers him an important member of the Arsenal squad. The manager does not want to lose him, particularly because Zubimendi remains a player capable of contributing at the highest level.Arsenal’s position could make it difficult for Madrid to complete a transfer in January. The Gunners have little reason to approve a mid-season departure while Arteta continues to value the midfielder’s presence.Madrid’s renewed interest could nevertheless create uncertainty around Zubimendi’s future.
