Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to Benfica star Gianluca Prestianni ahead of January, and the early data this season suggests he is on his way to having a breakout season. The left wing has been a problem area for Spurs this season, with Mathys Tel failing to take his opportunities, while Wilson Odobert, Xavi Simons and Mykhailo Mudryk are out injured. It was reported a few days ago by O Jogo that Tottenham are considering raiding Benfica in January for Gianluca Prestianni, who has made an impressive start to the new season. The report claimed that the 20-year-old’s displays this term have caught the attention of Spurs, Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid, all of whom have sent scouts to Portugal to watch him play.Photo by Joao Bravo/Sports Press Photo/Getty ImagesTottenham target Gianluca Prestianni is making massive strides in a short timeA new report in Correio da Manha (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now taken a closer look at why the Argentine winger is suddenly attracting interest from the likes of Tottenham and Villa. They point out that Prestianni’s numbers this season demonstrate an astonishing improvement in a short space of time. The pacy winger currently has more shots than any player across the Portuguese top flight. He also leads the competition for successful dribbles completed so far this season. The Benfica star has also been fouled the most times (21) in Portuguese football, demonstrating that teams are finding him hard to stop.Prestianni has also found the back of the net eight times (plus three assists) across all competitions, and it is pointed out that the youngster has already surpassed his goal tally of the last two seasons combined. However, Prestianni does come with a controversial past. The Benfica player was accused of making a racist remark to Vinicius Jr in a Champions League knockout play-off match against Real Madrid in February 2026.UEFA rules dictate that racism comes with a mandatory 10-game ban, but Vini Jr’s accusation went unproven. Despite this, Prestianni admitted to using a homophobic slur and was eventually slapped with a six-game ban (BBC).Prestianni could soon be a regular for ArgentinaThe 20-year-old made his debut for Argentina back in November of last year, but that remains his only cap, with the winger not making the squad for the World Cup.However, Prestianni has now been recalled to the national team by Lionel Scaloni during the current international break after his blistering start to the season.According to Record (via Sport Witness), the winger has made a very positive impression on Scaloni and his coaching staff in training. The Benfica star is said to be putting himself in contention to get minutes in the upcoming friendlies, which could mean that Spurs could soon have the chance to have a closer look at him at the international stage.READ MORE: 94% passing accuracy, Lucas Bergvall is playing himself into form for TottenhamThe post Tottenham’s Gianluca Prestianni interest is supported by data, but he has a controversial past appeared first on Spurs Web.
