The first month of the NFL season is in the rearview mirror, and already – with the help of the latest NFL betting odds – we’re beginning to get an idea of which teams may be competing for the playoffs, and the Super Bowl, and which teams will soon be focussing on player development.The league’s 32 franchises have played the first three of their 17-game schedules – five have won all three, while another five have lost all three. They came up just short last season, losing twice in Seattle when it mattered.The front office certainly went ‘all in’ – making a blockbuster trade for NFL single-season sack record holder Myles Garrett, who racked up 23 last season in Cleveland. He has also won Defensive Player of The Year twice in the last three seasons with the Browns. He’s not the only significant upgrade to the defence, however, with corner Trent McDuffie arriving from the Kansas City Chiefs – also via trade.They haven’t quite yet looked like the juggernaut they were billed to be. Garrett underwhelmed on his debut in the Melbourne game – which the Rams lost convincingly to the 49ers – and has now been placed on injured reserve (IR) while he recovers from knee surgery. Superstar receiver Puka Nacua, coming off a 1700+ yard season, has barely been seen either so far. The Rams are 1-2 after blowing a 16-0 halftime lead to the Denver Broncos.They also have tricky matchups coming up – against the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly and then the Buffalo Bills come to SoFi Stadium. Once the pieces come together, they should become very difficult to stop, but they can ill afford to drop to 1-4. Back the Los Angeles Rams to win Super Bowl 61 at +670 with DraftKings Buffalo Bills (+670)The Bills will always be among the favorites heading into each season for as long as Josh Allen is around. With the Chiefs, Ravens and Bengals absent from last season’s playoffs, however, the Bills failed to capitalize – losing to the Broncos in a dramatic divisional round clash, prolonging the wait for a first-ever title.That prompted a change at head coach, with Joe Brady replacing Sean McDermott. The Bills have also moved into their new home, but while they may seem like big changes, the Brady hire was an internal promotion, and the new stadium is just across the parking lot from the old one – they’ve already won their first two games there. Buffalo have looked like Buffalo these first three weeks.Sportsbooks are expecting business as usual in the AFC East, which has been largely dominated by the upstate New Yorkers in recent years. Two losses in the first three weeks for the New England Patriots – who broke the Bills’ recent dominance last season – have certainly cemented Buffalo as the favorites for that division once again. Back the Buffalo Bills to win their first Super Bowl at +670 with DraftKings San Francisco 49ers (+900)The 49ers have been in the hunt almost every season since Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach, losing two Super Bowls to Kansas City in 2020 and 2024. They entered a week 18 showdown with Seattle last season for the NFC West title, but came up short in that one and ended up going on the road through the playoffs – where their season was ended in The Emerald City.They still have one of the best rosters in the league when everyone is healthy – but that has often been a big “if” in recent seasons and ultimately proved to be their downfall last season, with Nick Bosa and Fred Warner among many on the treatment table throughout 2025. Mike Evans is an eye-catching addition to the offence, and they hope he still has a few good years of production left in him. George Kittle is back – catching 10 passes for over 160 yards and three touchdowns in weeks 2 and 3. The 49ers are 3-0, but the jury should still be out on whether they’re ‘for real’ – they beat up the ill-prepared Rams in Melbourne and have since played the Miami Dolphins and Arizona Cardinals at home, two teams who are expected to have high draft picks in April. Tip the San Francisco 49ers at +900 to win Super Bowl 61 with theScore Bet Baltimore Ravens (+950)The Baltimore Ravens fall into a similar bracket as the Bills in the sense that having Lamar Jackson will always mean they’re in contention. They too have made a change at head coach, parting ways with John Harbaugh after 18 seasons and hiring Jesse Minter. Minter was one of the hottest properties in this year’s coaching carousel after his stellar work as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. Jackson was sidelined with injury for several weeks of 2025, but it appeared as though he had returned just in time to save their season. In the end, they were a missed field goal away from making the postseason – instead, it was their bitter rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers who made it.Minter has a very talented roster at his disposal which, when healthy, is the most complete in the AFC North. At the time of writing, they are traveling home after a dramatic win in Rio De Janeiro – where they defeated the Dallas Cowboys 34-31. Just the response they needed after a disappointing slip-up at home to the New Orleans Saints. Bet on the Baltimore Ravens to win the Super Bowl at +950 with Caesars Seattle Seahawks (+1000)In just Mike Macdonald’s second season as head coach, and with Sam Darnold arriving to be what everyone outside of the Emerald City assumed would be a ‘bridge’ quarterback, few saw Seattle’s title run coming.Darnold continued from where he left off in 2024, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 25 touchdowns, and delivering in huge moments down the stretch. The Seahawks won a three-horse race for the NFC West and went all the way to secure their second championship.Like many successful teams, however, Seattle did lose some key pieces this offseason – Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker and secondary starters Coby Bryant and Riq Woolen secured big deals elsewhere. The Seahawks may struggle to repeat – especially with the Rams, in their division, making such aggressive moves – but the core of their winning roster is still here.Darnold missed the best part of the two games to start the season, but the Seahawks won both of those – owing to how well-constructed the rest of their team is. It was the first time Patrick Mahomes’ season had ended before the AFC Championship Game since he became the starting quarterback, let alone the first time he’d missed the postseason. Everything that could go wrong for the Chiefs, did go wrong in 2025, and Mahomes himself tore his ACL and LCL in week 14. The three-time Super Bowl MVP returned fully healthy for week 1 as the Chiefs blew out the Denver Broncos – the team who ended their streak of AFC West titles. They’ve since added to that with wins over the Indianapolis Colts (in overtime) and the Miami Dolphins. Andy Reid’s squad are starting to look back to their old selves. Bet on the Kansas City Chiefs to bounce back in 2026 and win the Super Bowl at +1100 with theScore Bet Cincinnati Bengals (+1800)The Cincinnati Bengals will be knocking on wood that this time Joe Burrow can stay healthy as, with him at the wheel, their team once again looks one of the strongest in the AFC. The last three seasons, however, have all ended in heartbreak with the number one pick in the 2020 NFL Draft missing time – with two injuries completely ending his season.The Bengals have also been notoriously slow out of the gates in recent years – but not so this time, as they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Houston Texans in weeks 1 and 2. A defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, however, coupled with Baltimore’s win in Brazil meant they’re locked with the Ravens at 2-1 at the top of the AFC North. Back the Cincinnati Bengals to win their first Super Bowl at +1800 with theScore Bet Detroit Lions (+2000)The Lions fell short of the playoffs last season, but they have been trending upwards for several seasons under Dan Campbell – going 12-5 in 2023 and 15-2 in 2024.Despite finishing bottom of the NFC North in 2025, only the two Super Bowl teams put up more regular season points – and that’s having been without dynamic tight end Sam LaPorta for a large stretch. That means, however, they have a ‘fourth-place schedule’ for the upcoming season and, according to several reputable analysts, their ‘strength of schedule’ is the easiest of all 32 in the league. They’re slated for a strong bounce back season. Remarkably, they’ve scored exactly 31 points in each of their first three games – a tally which will win you more games than you lose. Here are my picks as I try to make sense of what is sure to be a thrilling few months – focusing on futures such as division winners and win-loss records.Denver Broncos to win the AFC West (+260)Not only were the Chiefs a shadow of their usual selves in 2025, the Denver Broncos in year 2 of Sean Payton’s reign as coach, were terrific. An 11-game winning streak from late September through to mid December saw them race clear of Andy Reid’s team and end their 10-year dominance of the AFC West.Sportsbooks were right to bank on Mahomes’ return for week 1, slating the Chiefs as the favorites to take back top spot. That is holding up for the time being too with them getting off to a 3-0 start. Tougher tests will lie ahead, however, and the rest of the roster has slowly weakened over the past couple of years. Kenneth Walker III looks an excellent addition at running back, however.Sunday Night Football in Week 3 proved the Broncos aren’t going anywhere, however, as they pulled off an incredible comeback to beat the Super Bowl favorite Los Angeles Rams. Their no-show against the Chiefs in Week 1 has put them behind the eight ball – handing the Arrowhead team the tiebreaker, for now. More surprisingly, the Los Angeles Chargers are 0-3 and with a gauntlet of a schedule to take on over the next few weeks. The Las Vegas Raiders, meanwhile, have already matched their win total from last season. Realistically though, it should be a two-horse race between the Broncos and Chiefs. Back the Denver Broncos to win the AFC West at +260 at BetMGM Los Angeles Rams to win over 10.5 games (-125)The Rams are still one of the leading two Super Bowl favorites and, if that’s to be the case, they should secure the most regular season wins and lock up the top seed in the NFC. In four of the last five seasons, the NFC West winner has hit the 12-win mark. Since starting 1-2 and losing Myles Garrett for a few weeks, their line has reduced slightly to 10.5 wins – meaning they need to win 11 or more for this to land.While the Seahawks and the 49ers will likely push them hard once again, that’s still a bar that this loaded Rams roster should hit. The intra-division games will of course prove crucial – even accounting for the loss to the Niners, I would still expect them to go 4-2 in the NFC West (or better), sweeping the Arizona Cardinals, splitting with Seattle and avenging the Melbourne loss.The next couple of weeks are looking tough too, in Philadelphia and against Buffalo, but then they should be favored to win the next five against the Cardinals (twice), Raiders, Chargers and Commanders. Take the over on the LA Rams’ win total of 10.5 at -125 with the Score Bet Houston Texans to be eliminated in the Divisional Round (+650)The Houston Texans have won 10 or more games in the last three seasons in a row, ever since drafting C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson Jr, and hiring DeMeco Ryans as head coach. Even though 12 wins was only good enough for second place in the AFC South last season, they enter this season as favorites to win the division for a third time in four years. Their true target, however, will be to go beyond the Divisional Round of the playoffs, which is where they’ve unravelled in each of those past three seasonsFor a second straight season, however, they find themselves in an 0-3 hole. It goes without saying, if they sink to 0-4, we’ll need to reassess this one but after facing three tough opponents, we’re still backing the talent they have – particularly on defence – to turn things around. Therefore, there could be some value here in this pick. Tip the Houston Texans to once again fall at the Divisional Round stage at +650 with DraftKings Key dates in the 2026/27 NFL seasonWhile the schedule release always throws up some eye-catching showdowns and potentially box office rivalries, there will also be some huge games further down the track that will carry playoff implications that are impossible to foresee right now. There are a few weeks of the season, however, where you can guarantee a greater buzz around the NFL – including Week 1 which, of course, has come and gone. Thanksgiving As is tradition in the NFL, three games will be played on Thanksgiving and two of those will always be hosted by the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys.This year, it’s the Chicago Bears and the Philadelphia Eagles respectively who will be visiting on Turkey Day. The final matchup sees the latest episode of Chiefs @ Bills – the first meeting between the two in the new Highmark Stadium.Not only that but we will also be getting a new ‘Thanksgiving Eve’ game this year – Packers @ Rams. The Black Friday game will see the Broncos taking on the Steelers in Pittsburgh. ChristmasWe’ll be treated to another feast of football, of course, on Christmas Day. This year, we’ll be able to watch Packers @ Bears, Bills @ Broncos and Rams @ Seahawks – all repeats from last season’s playoffs and all three were among the best games in the entire season. Week 18In an effort to reduce meaningless games at the end of the season, every team faces a division rival in their final game. Dates and times of these matchups will be flexed depending on how much is at stake, with the games carrying the most playoff significance receiving national TV coverage. International SeriesThe NFL is expanding further and wider this season to bring the game to even more fans around the world. This year will see a total of nine games played overseas, with Melbourne, Paris and Rio De Janeiro debuting as host cities. The London games get underway in Week 4. Which teams are not expected to compete for a championship this year?Currently, the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins are expected to win the fewest games according to most sportsbooks.
