Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Bayern Munich star Kim Min-jae is more than just paper talk, according to a reputed German reporter. The centre-back partnership of Micky van de Ven and Jan Paul van Hecke has been inconsistent at the start of the new season.Their performance against Aston Villa left a lot to be desired, with Roberto De Zerbi being extremely critical of the first two goals his side conceded. The Tottenham boss said about Villa’s second goal: “I don’t know if some players lost energy, but we conceded an unacceptable goal from a long kick with a long ball. We knew before the game, because this season, Aston Villa are playing 86% more long balls than last season. We spoke in many, many meetings yesterday and two days ago.”Amid their struggles at the back, it appears that Spurs may be looking to add some proven quality to the heart of their defence in January.Photo by N. Hermann/FC Bayern via Getty ImagesTottenham made contact with Kim Min-jae during the summer windowA couple of days ago, a German outlet revealed that Tottenham and Aston Villa were both eyeing a January move for Bayern Munich star Kim Min-jae.The update claimed that the South Korean’s future at the Allianz Arena is in doubt and the player is set for talks over his future with the Bavarian club over the coming weeks.Bild journalist Christian Falk has now confirmed that the two Premier League clubs, as well as AC Milan, reached out to Kim’s representatives during the summer window. However, he suggested that a January exit from the Bundesliga club is unlikely for the former Napoli man.Falk said on FC Bayern Insider about the centre-back: “I can say it’s still true that Bayern Munich will be the first club he opens any kind of talks with. But it will depend on a number of things, like what Bayern are offering this Autumn when they open talks over his future? Will they say Min-jae Kim can sign a new contract? Or is he still one of the players the club would consider selling to bring in some money?“This is why other clubs have Kim in their focus. Aston Villa is interested, and I heard both Tottenham and AC Milan are also looking at the South Korean international. In fact the three clubs in question already made contact in the summer for Kim, but in the end there was no offer. So, nothing concrete at the moment. I wouldn’t expect a January move or anything. Everything will depend on what Bayern Munich will tell Kim in contract talks this year.”Do Spurs need another centre-back?Tottenham do not tend to do much shopping in January and usually wait until the summer window to strengthen key areas of the pitch. While there is no doubt that Spurs’ frontline needs reinforcements in the winter, given their struggles for goals so far this season, one doubts there will be any additions to their backline in the winter.De Zerbi is likely to see through this season with Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Marcos Senesi, Tosin Adaribayo and Ben Davies as his centre-back options before reassessing next summer, particularly with no European football this season.READ MORE: Sandro Tonali review out of Italy: £100m Tottenham star dubbed ‘fish out of water’The post Tottenham and Aston Villa both exploring a move for Serie A and Bundesliga winner appeared first on Spurs Web.
