Is QuickSurface Personal severely limited since it only exports STL? Is there a point to it?

Wait 5 sec.

I'm just a beginner hobbyist who just got a 3D scanner and wants to mostly scan objects to get their mating surfaces to attach additional designed items to. I'm using the free version of Fusion and one of the fundamental problems is meshes cannot be converted into clean solids since it lacks Prismatic conversion. Your converted mesh in Fusion Free is basically just a solid with a ton of triangles with functionally unworkable surfaces. QuickSurface Personal doesn't change this since it only outputs as an STL... which is just a bunch of triangles which Fusion Free just converts into a solid with, again... a bunch of triangles with functionally unworkable surfaces. Nothing seems to have been gained? Even if you were taking a part with the intention of reverse engineering it, with QuickSurface Personal you'll still just be exporting that reverse engineered part into a mass of triangles with limited editability downstream. submitted by /u/StrongRecipe6408 to r/3DScanning [link] [comments]
