Academic and historian Tapati Guha Thakurta, who played key role in getting UNESCO tag for Durga Puja in Kolkata, speaks to The Hindu about the evolution of Durga Puja in Kolkata and says that debate around ritual purity and vegetarianism does not make much sense. Prof Guha Thakurta says that people across caste and communities participate in Durga Puja and the role of government is of master manager and not deciding on what Pujas should be.
