People are saying, "Why would someone take their life over something as small as that?"

Wait 5 sec.

We often judge people's breaking points from the outside while having no idea what battles they are carrying on the inside. A young man pays lobola, believing he is finally beginning life with the woman he loves. Then he is told he must wait longer, raise more money, meet more expectations, and postpone the future he had already built in his mind. To some people, that sounds minor. To him, it may have been the final weight added to a load he was already struggling to carry. The issue is not whether we agree with his decision. Suicide is tragic. The issue is that pain is personal. What looks like a small setback to one person may be the breaking point for another. Before calling someone's reason "silly," remember that you are seeing only the event, not the years of pressure, disappointment, anxiety, loneliness, financial stress, or emotional struggles that may have come before it. Sometimes the last straw is not the heaviest straw. Be careful when judging people whose battles you never had to fight. submitted by /u/Obvious-Cause2404 [link] [comments]
