Being upfront: I don't teach. I build AI workflows for the business side of running a private studio (parent emails, billing, policies), so I spend a lot of time staring at teacher economics. Here's the math that keeps bugging me. Take a hypothetical studio: 22 students, $35 per half hour, about 9 lessons a month cancelled and never charged. Over a 9-month teaching year, that's roughly 81 lessons, or about $2,835 a year. That's close to a 10% pay cut that nobody decided on. The standard fix I see recommended is flat monthly billing with the slot held and no credit for short-notice cancellations. What I can't tell from the outside is how it actually plays out: Did switching cost you families? The good ones, or just the chronic cancellers? How did you word it to parents without it feeling like a penalty? Anyone tried it and gone back? Not linking anything.
