Looking for a UI/UX Designer Co-Founder for a Playable Airline Management Sim

Wait 5 sec.

Hi! I’m the developer of Contrail: Airline Sim, a single-player airline management game that I originally started building because I couldn’t find an airline management game that worked the way I wanted. At this point, it has grown far beyond a prototype. The game is already fully playable, with most of the core systems implemented, including: Detailed flight scheduling and aircraft rotations Fleet purchasing, leasing and management Interactive cabin configuration Connecting passenger simulation Route planning and pricing Airport and ground operations Maintenance Finance AI-controlled competing airlines I handle most of the systems design and programming myself. But as the game has become deeper, one thing has become increasingly obvious: I need someone who is much better at UI/UX than I am. Who I’m looking for Ideally, I’d love to find a UI/UX designer who wants to become a genuine long-term partner on the project, rather than someone who simply takes a list of screens, redesigns them, and leaves. Contrail currently has around 50 screens and some fairly complex systems. I’m looking for someone who enjoys solving problems like: How do we present a lot of information without overwhelming the player? How should players navigate between interconnected management systems? How can scheduling hundreds of flights remain manageable? How do we make complex systems understandable without removing their depth? What information does the player actually need right now? How can we establish a consistent design language across the entire game? So while strong visual UI skills are important, I care just as much about UX, information architecture and interaction design. Experience with management, tycoon, strategy or simulation games would be especially valuable. You absolutely do not need to know aviation. I can handle that side. But if you happen to be an avgeek too... we’ll probably have a lot to talk about. :) Why a co-founder? I don’t want this person to simply “work for me.” I want someone who can tell me: “This workflow doesn't make sense.” Or: “I think we should completely rethink this system.” And then we can argue about it, prototype something better, test it, and make the decision together. I’ve already taken the project quite far on the systems/programming side. What I’m missing is someone whose strengths complement mine and who genuinely wants to help shape what Contrail becomes. Compensation / Partnership I’m open to revenue sharing for a genuine long-term partnership, with the exact structure depending on involvement and responsibilities. I’m also completely open to paid work initially. In fact, I’d prefer that we don’t make a major partnership decision after a few Reddit messages. A good starting point could simply be: Play the current build → identify UX problems → redesign one important workflow together. I can pay for that initial work. If we enjoy working together and both feel that the partnership makes sense, then we can talk seriously about a longer-term arrangement and revenue sharing. So there’s no expectation of doing unpaid speculative work just to prove yourself. Current status Contrail is already playable from start to finish, so you won't be joining an “I have an idea for a game” project. You’ll be able to play the actual build, break things, criticize it, and see exactly what you’d potentially be joining. The goal is a commercial Steam release. About me I’m a university student and aviation/management-game nerd who somehow ended up building the airline management game I always wanted to play. My main strengths are systems design and programming. I particularly enjoy designing the simulation underneath the interface — scheduling, passenger behavior, airline operations, fleet management and all the interconnected systems that make the world work. UI/UX is very much not my strongest skill, which is exactly why I’m writing this post. Interested? Send me a DM with: A little about yourself Your portfolio Any UI/UX work you’re particularly proud of Any management / strategy / simulation games you enjoy You don’t need to have worked on a huge commercial game. I care much more about finding someone with good design instincts, complementary skills, and genuine interest in building something together long-term. If that sounds like you, I’d love to talk. ✈️ submitted by /u/Sea-Word130 [link] [comments]
