TFB Behind the Gun #237: Tom Willingham of Range USA

Wait 5 sec.

This week on TFB's Behind the Gun Podcast, I'm joined by Tom Willingham, founder and CEO of Range USA, the largest indoor gun range and firearms retail chain in the country. Tom's path here is anything but predictable — he spent his career as a commercial real estate appraiser in Cincinnati before a frustrating first visit to a gun shop at age 51 convinced him there had to be a better way to do this. He opened his first store in Blue Ash, Ohio, in 2012 on personal savings and a business plan sketched on the back of an envelope, and Range USA has since grown to 51 locations across 14 states, including a brand-new store that just opened in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. We talk through that whole path, what Range USA's Ohio roots still mean for how the company runs today, and I get to bring in a little of my own experience as a Range USA customer along the way for a fun conversation with one of the most successful indoor range owners in the country. Tom opened the first location in Blue Ash, Ohio in 2012 at age 51, after a bad first experience at a gun shop convinced him the industry needed a more welcoming, mainstream retail approach. We trace that growth from a single Cincinnati-area store to 51 locations across 14 states, including the company's newest opening in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, and talk about what staying rooted in Ohio still means for Range USA's culture as it keeps expanding nationwide.Follow Range USA:Online StoreInstagramMonroeville location Listen right here at TFB: Listen to Behind The Gun on TFB – https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/podcast/Listen on Apple Podcasts: Listen to Behind The Gun on Apple Podcasts – https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/tfb-behind-the-gun-podcast/id1505843385Listen on Spotify: Listen to Behind The Gun on Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/5riFj2wJFloCtoKzvCc4ml?si=V-JiLBcXQSKw6cdtWzqdTwPlease support our Behind The Gun Podcast sponsors:Silencer Shop – www.silencershop.com If you’ve said that buying a silencer is too expensive, too long of a wait, or that the paperwork is too confusing, you’re not alone.
