Swiss small arms and accessories manufacturer KUGS has introduced a new bipod line for the SIG 550 series of rifles. The KUGS bipods are designed to provide greater stability, which is primarily achieved by increasing the leg angle from the standard 60 degrees to 90 degrees. Switzerland has one of the best-organized militias in the world, where the militia members take part in annual military exercises and even get to keep their rifles. The current standard-issue rifle of the Swiss Army is the SIG SG 550, aka FASS 90, aka Stgw 90. Most military rifles usually have room for improvement and the Swiss one is no exception. Apparently, for Swiss militia members who regularly train and compete with their rifles, the standard bipod design leaves a lot to be desired and there was a demand for an improved one.The problem is that any upgrades to the service rifles must be government-approved, which I guess is a counter-Bubba measure. Well, Florian Kohli, the owner of KUGS, managed to get his bipod designs approved by the Swiss authorities (SAT) and they will be included in the official Catalog of Authorized Accessories for Service Weapons effective January 1st, 2027. There are two models of the KUGS bipod: FIXE and PROG. The FIXE has non-adjustable legs; the fixed leg length is 270mm (10.6”), which places the muzzle at 220mm (8.6”) above the ground. The PROG features adjustable legs with 265 to 305mm of leg length adjustment range. The prices in Switzerland are 379 Swiss francs for the FIXE, which, at the time of writing, is equal to about $455, and 479 CHF for the PROG, about $575. These bipods are also compatible with semi-auto-only civilian counterparts of the Swiss Army rifle, the SIG 550 and PE 90. The KUGS FIXE (left) and PROG bipods.
