A former Tottenham Hotspur scout has made a controversial claim about the North London club after Man City were found guilty of major financial breaches.Unless you have been living under a rock, you will be aware that Man City have been found guilty by an independent Premier League panel of 114 breaches of the competition’s financial regulations from 2009 to 2018.The news has not just been dominating the back pages but also the front ones in the UK, with everyone eager to see how this story evolves and what consequences City face.Interestingly, Tottenham have a major dog in this fight, with reports indicating that Spurs have reserved the right to sue Man City for lost Champions League revenue during the relevant period.Photo by SpursWebBryan King calls for Premier League to take closer look at Tottenham’s accountsFormer Spurs and Man United scout Bryan King has suggested that Man City are being unfairly scrutinised due to their on-pitch success.Bizarrely, he questioned how Tottenham have been able to spend as much as they have, given the huge debt they have incurred on the stadium.King told Football Insider: “Man City brought in the right players. Financially, whatever went on. The fact is, you can buy a player for £50m and somebody else will say, ‘we couldn’t afford him. ‘He wouldn’t come to us because we couldn’t afford him.’“But there’s no guarantee that that player is going to perform. You’ve seen it in the past. Players have been brought in. Just look at a few of them now. They’ve been brought in for big money. If anybody had said about financial irregularities, you’d have said, ‘well, what about Tottenham?’“They’re in massive debt with the new stadium. What gives them the right to be able to bring in players and spend £400m when they haven’t even paid off the stadium yet? There are so many hypocrites in the game at the moment. Nobody’s interested in losers anymore. They’re interested in winners.”Spurs’ debt is exempt from PSR calculationsKing appears to have no understanding of how the Premier League’s financial regulations work and what the charges against Man City are.City’s charges relate to alleged financial misrepresentation and masking sponsorship income to bypass spending limits, not simply spending a lot of money. In contrast, Tottenham’s debt is explicitly tied to stadium infrastructure development, which is completely exempt from PSR calculation limits.PSR scrutinises operational losses, while incentivising long-term capital investments, which is why Everton have also been able to incur a lot of debt on a new stadium despite their financial position. Spurs remains fully compliant with financial regulations because their debt is structured around permitted, long-term infrastructure exclusions.READ MORE: Tottenham’s Gianluca Prestianni interest is supported by data, but he has a controversial past. The post ‘What about Tottenham?’ – Spurs finances called into question amid Man City hypocrisy appeared first on Spurs Web.
