Adrian Lewis has expressed his excitement over his incredible upcoming reunion with darts legend Phil Taylor.The duo will team up at the Modus Super Series after 66-year-old Taylor agreed to a blockbuster return to the oche.Phil Taylor will grace the oche once more when he returns to action alongside Adrian LewisGettyTaylor, who retired from the sport back in 2024, joins forces with Lewis in the International Pairs Tournament in Portsmouth in November. News of the 16-time world champion’s return took darts fans by surprise on Tuesday morning.Taylor admitted Lewis was the only player he’d have come out of retirement for to compete alongside.The pair have a long and storied history having clinched the World Cup on four occasions as a pairing.Speaking exclusively to Darts World Media, Lewis lifted the lid on how the pair joined forces ahead of November’s event.Lewis’s delight“First off, I’m really looking forward to it,” Lewis said.“I got a message saying Phil’s interested in doing the pairs for the Super Series, how would you feel about it?“As soon as I heard Phil’s name, and he hasn’t thrown a dart for god knows how, I thought yeah, I’m up for it. I’m really excited for it.”Lewis, a two-time world champion, stepped away from darts in 2023 to concentrate on family life.He later revealed that he wanted to return to competitive action and his link-up with Taylor is likely to reignite his desire for darts.Lewis was all smiles when discussing his reunion with TaylorDarts World mediaAsked whether he feels fired up for the event, Lewis said: “Yeah definitely. We know each other’s game inside out. We’ve won the World Cup four times together. “He’s just as excited as I am. It’s going to be really fun, and we’re going to do our best to win it for England for the first time.”Asked what the pair’s secret to their past successes were, ‘Jackpot’ added: “We pushed each other and we demanded a lot from each other as well.“We wanted to win the World Cup and bring it back home and that will be no different here.“We had so many good memories playing.”What will be their game plan?Lewis revealed that despite his lack of match practice, Taylor will take the lead as he always has.Taylor and Lewis have enjoyed past success as a pairing having won the World Cup of Darts four timesPA:Press Association“First off, he can be captain,” Lewis said. “He’s a 16-time world champion and he was always the captain when we were playing.“We’ll take each leg at a time, enjoy it and do our best to win.”There will undoubtedly be questions over Taylor’s form after two years away from the game. And those same questions may even be levelled at Lewis after a period of inactivity, but the 41-year-old attempted to allay any fears by providing an update on the duo’s current level.“My game is in pretty good shape,” he added. “I put in a couple of nine darters as well so that’s going really well.“I’ve been winning a few games as well, but in relation to Phil’s game, he told me he’s been practising every day, which I do believe him.Taylor is widely regarded as the greatest to ever play the sportGetty“Obviously, he’s not going to be as sharp straight away, but after a few legs, I think we can click and do some damage.“You never know, If I bang in the 180 there’s every chance Phil could hit the 141.”Asked what their expectations were from the tournament, Lewis said: “win”.“We’re not looking at anything else.
